Can you imagine what it must have been like for the disciples when Jesus appeared to them in this Gospel? Think about it, the disciples had been through the roughest few weeks of their life. they had just had the friend they loved the most, Jesus.

Taken away, Humiliated and crucified.

And now they were in trouble, it wasn’t a good time to be a follower of Jesus. These guys were in trouble, they didn’t know who to trust or what to do! But Jesus found them in that. right in the middle of their pain, sadness, mourning and confusion, Jesus met them. And that’s where He will meet you too. And I know that’s where He’s met me. In the darkest and most confusing times in my life, He has been there.

But just like the disciples Jesus never leaves us in that place. He demonstrated for us on the cross by showing them his wounds, and then commissioned them as Apostles of the church! They are witness to all of the things He has done, and so are we. Jesus encounters us in our struggles but loves us too much to leave us there. He calls us to more, to the fullness of life and ultimately to share the love we’ve experienced with others!

+ Jesus, You find us in the darkness and offer us Your light. Be with me today wherever I walk. Amen.
