We have this very exotic tree in our front yard that produces “ice-cream beans” (look it up, it’s really cool). But there’s this one tree I need to constantly trim up so that the branches don’t take over the space. Every time I do cut off a few branches, for some reason more of them pop up the next time… thanks for making my job harder tree!
Every so often, I experience a change of season in life or even a small change. I’m sure you experience that too. That might look like living in a new place, a new housemate, a new job, different leadership in your workplace or ministry or a change in life circumstance. For me, one big change of season has been moving into a new place and adjusting to family life with 2 more (about to be 3) people.
I often look back at what life looked like, the vast array of things I’ve experienced and to some certain degree who I was at different points. That was a season in life and God has called me into a different season in life where a lot of that has changed. If my experience with God holds true, this season will have its own moments and most importantly bigger growth.
The hard part is letting God “prune” and “trim”, cutting away parts that need to make way for a more new life or “branches”. It’s not the fun part but in those times that I have chosen to cling to God or as the Scripture says “abide” in Him that I have seen out those periods and God usually tends to exceed my expectations and show me something I could never have imagined.
God’s invitation today is for us to stick with Him regardless! Let go, let Him do His job and you get to marvel at what has gone on by the end of it!
+ God, prune the areas within me that need new life. Give me the vision to see where I am growing through my relationship with You. Amen
