I jumped out of a plane.

Landing on solid ground.

“This is completely safe, right?” I scream over the wind blasting into the metal sides of the plane. We gently ascended into, and eventually surpassed the clouds, giving a breathtaking view of the ground below and houses that looked like ants.

This is it - you’ve always had a stubborn side so you gotta prove you’re not scared and jump without hesitation. You feel the rush hit your body as the wind lifts you and the air rushes wildly up against your face and body.

You’re literally floating on top of the world and feel like you can do anything - but all too soon, it’s time to pull the chute. And after the intense rush - you find your legs, standing on solid ground.

Also - I nailed a 4 triple back flips and had time to update my insta story of me flying 20,000 feet in the air.

Ok so I didn’t actually jump out of a moving plane, but I’m guessing that’s a bit like what leaving Conference can feel like.

We just had the most life changing, transformative experience at Ignite Conference 2019!

Some of my favourite moments of Conference were hearing other people’s stories. I lovvveeed all the rallys, some of my favs including Paul J Kim and his beat boxing, Brendan Malone and his dad jokes, Justine Cumbo and her ‘Code brown’ spiel, there were so many classic moments.

But now, I’m back on solid ground, after the rush on Conference we’re left standing instead of pulling a sick backflip move catching air in altitude!
So, there are a few tips to remember that although we’re not in the plane anymore, or catching air, we can actually bring that same energy and momentum back with us back to earth.

  1. Keep it simple!

The saints, especially St Therese, talk on the small, simple way. And unless you’re a legit Doctor of the church and re writing the catechism (mad respect) we all need help to keep our prayer life going. God loves all our prayers if we say them with an honest, open heart. You don’t have to read the whole bible cover to cover, but start somewhere. Try the Gospels, or following the daily readings of the Church. It’s about making space for God in your life right now. You do that and I promise you He will take you further.

2. Check yo self

Reevaluate who you’re around, what you’re taking in. It’s often said, you want to know how people see you, look at your five closest friends. Maybe double check, are those five friends judging you and paying out on you for going to a Catholic conference, or were they there with you? Do they support you? Make sure your friends, even if they’re not into their faith, are helping you to become the best person you can be - you deserve to flourish and be around people who make you feel good about the fact you’re growing! Don’t settle.

3. Be bold

Risk nothing, gain nothing. If you’re still unsure about this ‘faith thing’ or you have already planned to forget about it now that you’re back at school, I would challenge you to pray about it. Yep, in your room, desk chair, middle of the grocery isle, “God, please give me the courage to make you a bigger part of my life”. Our God is a gentleman, he never opens the door, he knocks and waits for us to invite him in. Before you leave him out there for good, be sure to check what he has to say first. It might be what you need to hear.
